Task A:
Before I begin planning and production work, I will need to research into music videos to gain an understanding of what they are and their purpose. In order to do this I will be taking screenshots of viewing figures of music videos from a verity of sources.
Quantitative research:

Featuring Psy’s iconic moves, “Gangnam Style” went viral overnight to become the most-watched video on YouTube in four months. Psy made YouTube history again to claim the first video to reach 2 billion views.

The song holds the record for the most-streamed track in a single day on Spotify in the United States. On October 7, 2015, the video became the very first hip-hop song to reach a billion views on YouTube, and on September 3, 2016, it became the first hip-hop song to reach 2 billion views as well as being the second video ever to do so after Psy's "Gangnam Style". This song is from Vimeo, it's interesting to see that the music video doesn't have that many views, is it to do with the fact it's not on youtube? Or the fact it's experimental with retro arty poppy visuals rather than a straight forward artist.

Lyrically, "Sorry" is a plea for a chance to apologise to a lover, with Bieber asking forgiveness and a second chance to redeem himself. It features dancers in the whole video, with a bright white background. A different trend following modern music videos.

The music video features a cartoon stylish approach - it seems on Vimeo they tend to be more indie and have a more flow free style rather than a staged famous Youtube video. - It has nearly 10,000 views on Vimeo.

The video features quite a cinematic approach- and is very popular with nearly 2 billion. It seems like the most viewed ones have experienced directors on board to help film. Could this be the success?

Features mature content- only having 2K views. Seems like there are no "guidelines" within Vimeo a very more relaxed streaming website for music videos.
Task B:
Qualitative Research
Views and attitudes on music videos:
Eminem- "Mockingbird":
Source https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S9bCLPwzSC0

As we can see people think Mockingbird has quite a positive view- people prefer this "old school stuff" to modern rap. Mockingbird features a collection of personal footage of Eminem's daughter: Hailey. We can see that a few people are sick and tired of the unnecessary drugs and sexual content in rap videos, we can see in order for a music video to be successful it doesn't have to be stereotypical to the genre of music.
